Screen Caps
The Doctor's DNA is sampled. Jenny is born a soldier. Martha tends to a Hath. The Doctor and Cobb find a source. The Temple containing the source.
The Story
The TARDIS journeys out of control with Martha stranded on board - finally materialising in a tunnel. Upon their arrival, the Doctor, Donna and Martha are greeted with hostility by Human soldiers. The Doctor's hand is promptly forced into a machine. Moments later, a blonde young woman appears. His daughter has been born.

Jenny - a name chosen by Donna from "Generated Anomaly" - is born a soldier, pre-programmed to fight the Hath. Martha is taken by the half fish, half Human creatures. Jenny's instinct cuts in. She blows the tunnel - leaving Martha separated from the Doctor and Donna.

Martha befriends a Hath named Peck after fixing his dislocated shoulder. She is then accepted by the Haths and is given a brief history lesson. Both the Hath and the Humans are hoping to locate "The Source" - a mystical object that holds the key to life.

It's up to the Doctor, Donna and Jenny to get to the temple before the armies do, in order to avoid yet more bloodshed.

Memorable Quotes
Donna: Her name's Martha and she's not "collateral damage". Not for anyone. Have you got that, G.I. Jane?!

Donna: I mean, you're not "real".
Jenny: You're no better than him! I have a body; I have a mind; I have independent thought. How am I not real?

Doctor: Your history: it's just Chinese Whispers - getting more distorted, the more its passed on.

Editor's Review
The Daughter's Daughter is a good story, but it's a real mixed bag. There are two seperate plots running side by side. The first is about the horrors of war and bringing people together. The other provides some character development for the Doctor.

The introduction of Jenny causes an obvious problem - a third female traveling companion. To get around this, the character must in some way part with the Doctor at the end of the episode. This is done by her being shot by Cobb. At that moment, we are led to believe that she has died and that, unlike the Doctor, she is unable to regenerate. Of course, that throws up yet another problem - surely if she shares the Doctor's DNA, she can? Thusly, she has to be brought back from the dead, to lead a seperate life of adventure. It's a bit of a mess to be honest.

Thankfully, the other plot line is far less tedious. Donna's revelation that the war between the Humans and the Hath has only lasted seven days is very well executed and is, in my opinion, the best bit of the episode. Also, Martha's interaction with the Hath - thus giving her something to do - really works. There's even a Quarry involved!

Overall, the acting is quite good. Georgia Moffett does well as Jenny. Martha's character traits are well used - as is the brilliant character interaction between the Doctor and Donna. However, I can't help thinking that the daughter bit was crow-barred in from above... (Dan Ludlow)
