The Story
The Doctor takes Lucie to the seaside. Except that it isn't. For some reason, the Suffolk village of Thorington lies in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by sand. What's more, the sea is nowhere to be found. Even more bizarrely, its residents have re-lived Sunday, the first of September 1991, for the past seventeen years.

Why is it that the newsagent collects newspapers from his customers? And why are there no roads leading out of the village? The Doctor intends to find out.

Editor's Review
Brave New Town isn't as gripping a story as Max Warp I'm sorry to say. It is, however, still an enjoyable little tale. Unlike the previous story, this one is very light on Sci-Fi elements: the only Sci-Fi turns out to be a rather mysterious glowing ball...

I admit that it is hard to write a review for Brave New Town without ruining the big reveal. All I will say is that the people of Thorington are not quite as they seem - and neither is the location. There is something in the story for those interested in both Natural Geography and Modern History. The date itself is a clue for those in the know, but the Geographical side of the story is one that may be lost on many people. Despite this, it is still worth a listen to - followed by a visit to Wikipedia.

Once again the Paul McGann/Sheridan Smith partnership shines with all its brilliance, and the actors with dual-roles are very convincing. Listen out for a few subtle jokes - they will either make you cringe or make you smile. (Dan Ludlow)
